Android L on the internet for your HTC One & Nexus device
Android L is going to be the brand new Android operating system for Android from Google, but the official version will not be ready to download for a while yet. For those of you that are wondering what the Android L software is going to have in store for you, this week’s news has something good for you.
According to reports, the Android L software has been released in a preview version that can be downloaded for the HTC One M7 smartphone. The preview release has been released for developers his month on the Nexus 5, brand new Nexus 7 tablet and now the HTC One M7 users can enjoy the preview. Developers have been taking the software preview apart and offering what they can for older devices like the Nexus 4 and the original Nexus 7 model.
The port that was built for the HTC One M7 was posted late last week by a developer on the XDA developer forum and it is currently in an “unofficial” status. Flashing your HTC One with this unofficial software is not recommended since it is incomplete and if you are not familiar with flashing operating systems, it could cause fatal issues with your phone. As of right now, the features that are not working include the Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth, camera, sound and other sensors. Because these are some of the main things that you would want to function on your phone, it would be pointless to flash it to your device at this time. If you have a backup phone and want to get your first look at the Android L software, the download and install process should take about 15 minutes. For those of you that would rather wait until the official version has arrived, it is expected later this year around October.
The other devices that are likely to get the official software once it is released include the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 models and the Nexus 10. Google mentioned a year or more ago that any Nexus branded device would be getting any Android update first before the rest of the mobile community. That prompted many to hail those devices because many tablet and smartphone users would rather have new software as soon as it is released compared to waiting for their mobile carrier to decide when it is time for the download. The Android L software is coming with a new design on the user interface like usual, but it will also bring better battery performance, according to sources. From what some of seen the Android L is going to have a feature that is also found on the Apple operating system.
That feature is how the notifications on the locked screen appear to users. On the iOS software, notifications popup for the user when the screen is off. The feature will be well received and is one that has been missing from the latest KitKat software update. Once developers get a hold of the software, they will be able to push other messages to the lock screen from apps that are currently running. In the past, developers were only able to show the notifications via icons on the home screen, but those were not available when the screen was off.
